Industry Contributions

The past works of the Cleveland Equine Clinic and its former Randall Veterinary Hospital have been recognized worldwide. Randall was one of the first practices (1983) to use diagnostic ultrasound as a clinical tool to evaluate ligament injuries. Over the past 25 years Dr. Genovese has contributed scientific papers, oral presentations and seminars on the topic of limb ultrasonography.

The clinics have participated in numerous clinical equine trials, contributing (often unreimbursed) time and expertise for the benefit and welfare of the horse. Trials of note include the following:

• The use of Hyaluronan in joints to treat osteoarthritis
• The use of Bapten in tendon therapy
• Horse-environment interaction: the relationship between air quality in stables at an American Thoroughbred racetrack
• Tracheal mucous associated with poor racing performance
  The progress made in clinical field trials was made possible by the cooperation and dedication of horse owners and trainers who were more than willing to assist the progress of medicine, and especially horse persons at Thistledown Race Track.

Additionally, numerous veterinarians and students have passed through the Cleveland Equine Clinic and Randall Veterinary Hospital, including summer students, vet technicians, and more than 60 veterinarians have begun their careers here.

The veterinarians of the Cleveland Equine Clinic are dedicated to protecting equine welfare and the interest of horsemen through their involvement with the American Association of Equine Practitioners, Ohio Veterinary Medical Association, Ohio Department of Agriculture’s Equine Advisory Committee, Ohio State Racing Commission’s Medication Committee, and the Northeastern Ohio Equine Practitioners Association.
