MRI Technologies

For the past eleven years, in the French Alps of western Europe, a group of clinicians have gathered from around the world to discuss the latest updates in equine based MRIs, hosted by Hallmarq imaging.

This year Dr. Hill attended the conference in Chamonix to pursue her interests with this imaging modality and to bring back new information for all. New research was discussed, cases were reviewed and the strengths and weaknesses of MRI were assessed.

One point repeatedly acknowledged by many was that horses that ‘block out’, or improve their lameness, from an abaxial nerve block often require a foot and a fetlock MRI for definitive diagnosis rather than from a single location. Lameness is complicated, and MRI has helped to clarify many of these intricate cases.
