Many times, our equid patients have issues that cannot be appreciated unless the horse is performing its job and upper respiratory problems fall into this category. With the dynamic endoscope the horse’s upper respiratory tract can be evaluated while the horse is lunging, being ridden, or even driven. Using a portable and wireless endoscope that fits over the horse’s halter or bridle, a video is recorded while the horse works.

The camera on the endoscope is placed to allow visualization of the horse’s laryngeal area where many mechanical problems can occur. These types of issues include dorsal displacement of the soft palate, laryngeal collapse and laryngeal paralysis (i.e. roarer or “lazy flapper’) to name a few. Once the exam is concluded the video can be watched and evaluated for any issues.

The dynamic scope is able to be used in a clinical setting, on the farm or even race track.
